U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., introduced domestic-partnership benefits legislation for federal workers recently that, if passed, would take a step toward dismantling one-man, one-woman marriage at the federal level.
Baldwin testified in support of her Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act in Congress on Wednesday.
U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said the bill would create a dangerous legal precedent if passed.
“I believe in traditional marriage as between one man and one woman,” Chaffetz said. “I get concerned about legislation that tries to redefine marriage or provide benefits to a certain class of people based on their lifestyle choice.”
