Washington Voters to Decide on Marriage Referendum

by CitizenLink Staff

Referendum 71 will appear on the November ballot in Washington state, election officials announced Monday. The measure would repeal a domestic-partnership law that mirrors marriage.

The secretary of state’s office counted 121,486 valid signatures — more than the number needed.

Joseph Backholm, executive director of the Washington Family Policy Institute, said: “The purpose of the initiative is to prevent the state from taking the position that there’s no difference between homosexual and heterosexual relationships.”
