There are more than 130,000 kids in America waiting to be adopted out of foster care. President Obama has signed a proclamation making May National Foster Care Adoption Month.
Kelly Rosati, senior director of Sanctity of Human Life at Focus on the Family, said it’s about finding “forever families” for kids.
“These kids who are waiting need for the body of Christ to arise and welcome them home,” she said. “We think with 300,000 churches and only 130,000 waiting kids, this is something that’s doable.”
Wait No More, a Focus on the Family initiative that partners with government agencies and church and ministry leaders to recruit adoptive families, is having an impact.
“It’s been a wonderful collaboration,” Rosati said. “We’ve done five events in four states, and so far we’ve had 830 families start the process of adoption from foster care in just a year and a half.”
Sharon Ford with the Colorado Department of Human Services, said more foster families have recently come forward.
“Many of them have been able to attend the Wait No More events in which Colorado has partnered with Focus on the Family and our county departments and other organizations,” she said.
