As the Louisiana Legislatures is wrapping up its session, three pieces of pro-family legislation have been considered.
A pro-life bill requiring abortionists to offer an ultrasound for all women seeking abortions passed the Louisiana state Senate (33-4) and now moves to the House for debate.
Changes to the state sex-education curriculum were rejected. The rejected bill would have allowed parents to opt their children out of the sex-education program, by written request only. The current curriculum, which is abstinence-centered, will be retained and is optional for each school district.
“We are delighted and relieved,” said Valerie Huber, executive director of the National Abstinence Education Association, “that lawmakers have rejected a bill that would have eliminated a priority on the risk-avoidance message of abstinence.”
Senators are also considering religious liberty legislation that says that the government must prove a compelling reason to restrict religious expression.
