Southern Baptist Program Helps Kids in Foster Care

by Steve Jordahl

The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and Bethany Christian Services are teaming up to help SBC pastors adopt kids.

Corey Abney, a teaching pastor at Highview Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., said they’ll do that with a series of grants.

“We are launching a matching adoption fund for ministers and missionaries,” he said, “who are looking to adopt, but don’t have the financial resources to pay for it out-of-pocket.”

The SBC will match up to $2,000 and Bethany Christian Services will pitch in $1,000.

Abney said it’s a response to an increasing emphasis on adoption across the country.

“It’s an opportunity for us to seize the moment and bring more attention to adoption,” he said, “which not only helps us to better proclaim the Gospel, but also helps us to reach orphans.”
