What Government Oppression of Christianity Looks Like

by Bruce Hausknecht

In the U.S., “progressive” government entities on a mission of political correctness don’t need barbed wire or guard dogs if they don’t like how you think and are worried that you might hold up “progress.” If they suspect you of maintaining beliefs that might be contrary to their political agenda, or worse – offending a special interest group that controls the political agenda – they simply take away your livelihood.

Impossible, you say? Surely not in America!

In Minneapolis, a psychologist won a city contract to pre-screen fire department employee applicants. Then someone got wind of this psychologist’s ties to a pro-family, Christian organization in another state, and alerted the city, which promptly hired someone to “investigate” the psychologist and determine (perhaps “prove” would be more appropriate) whether the psychologist’s beliefs were affecting his recommendations concerning the applicants. The investigation focused on race and sexual orientation.  Anyway, the investigation revealed nothing but the highest level of ethical, professional conduct on the part of the psychologist. Case over, you’d think.

Nah. They fired him anyway. Then they hired someone else with less experience for twice the money. Anyone still wondering about the City’s motivation?

That’s when the Alliance Defense Fund stepped in on behalf of Dr. Paul Campion and filed a lawsuit on his behalf alleging multiple constitutional violations and breach of contract. After a judge indicated that Dr. Campion had a pretty good case, the City finally threw in the towel and paid out a settlement to end the case.

This is not an isolated case, however. We’ve witnessed adoption agencies going out of business in Boston, a mom and pop photography business fined thousands of dollars in New Mexico, would-be counselors threatened or prevented from even graduating from colleges in Michigan and Georgia, all for the “sin” of holding to a mainstream religious worldview.

That kind of “progress” is not encouraging.

Maranatha, Maranatha, The Lord is coming back. We must prepare our hearts so that we can receive him. Amen.

The Lord said these things will happen so why are we surprised. Preach the Lord crucified, our time left here on earth is short. Preach to as many as will receive him. Amen.
