More than 45,000 CitizenLink petitions were hand-delivered to House Speaker John Boehner today.
The “Remember the Family” initiative asks each member of Congress to consider the impact on American families before approving any legislation.
Ashley Horne, federal policy analyst at CitizenLink, said the meeting with Boehner went well.
“We were able to convey the concerns of many pro-life Americans around the country,” she said, “which is that this freshman class really needs to maintain their focus on family values issues.
“The speaker did say that the pro-life issue was very important to him and they would continue to move forward to cut taxpayer funding for abortion providers.”
The petition will serve as a reminder to Congress that families are the bedrock of society, faith communities, the economy, and the principal reason for America’s stability and greatness.
The petition also calls on Congress to take action on key issues, including defunding Planned Parenthood; lowering taxes; protecting religious freedom; and maintaining the Defense of Marriage Act.
Tom Minnery, senior vice president at CitizenLink, said family advocates have a simple message for Boehner and other pro-family lawmakers. “We’re behind you. We’re praying for you, but we need results.”
