If freedom is something you value, then you need to pay attention – as you may not have it for long if our nation continues to embrace socialism. According to an AXIOS poll, only half of younger Americans now hold a positive view of capitalism, while socialism’s appeal continues to grow. When AXIOS compared their poll results from 2019 with 2021, the results were alarming.
Today, 18 to 34-year-olds are almost evenly split between those who view capitalism positively and those who view it negatively (49% vs. 46%). Two years ago, that margin was a gaping 20 points (58% vs. 38%). It’s amazing to me how an ideology like socialism can become so popular when historically it has been so deadly. In 1999, a group of European researchers published The Black Book of Communism, an international best-seller. They calculated the Socialist-Marxist impact on the 20th century in terms of lives lost and found that the death toll from World War I and World War II would have to be combined and then doubled just to get near it.
Regardless of historical fact, liberal school boards are introducing curricula that paints socialism in a positive light. But parents are waking up and battles are raging in school districts that are embracing Socialist-Marxist ideology. Parents are also realizing that the socialist view of “equity” is inextricably linked to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) and that their children will also be taught to embrace transgenderism and LGBTQ lifestyles.
Here is what’s happening in a few Rhode Island school districts:
- The Bristol County Concerned Citizens group has been effectively battling the Bristol-Warren School Board over the introduction of Critical Race Theory, a socialist-oriented curriculum, into their schools. Bristol’s many retired military veterans as well as active-duty servicemen love America and recognize how destructive this liberal agenda is. - The South Kingstown School District has a champion mom in Nicole Solas. Her daughter was entering kindergarten, and she became concerned when an elementary school principal told her that teachers don’t refer to students as “boys” and “girls”. School officials would not answer her questions, so she submitted public records requests to find out how Critical Race Theory and Gender Identity were integrated into lessons and school policies. For that, she was hit with a $75,000 bill and is being sued by the teacher’s union. But Nicole is not backing down. She made national news for standing her ground and found she has a lot of support from other parents in our state and across the country. Her courage has inspired others to find out what their children are being taught.
- One more battle worth mentioning is in the Chariho School District (Charlestown, Richmond, Hopkinton). Sen. Elaine Morgan and parents have been battling a very liberal school board there to keep Critical Race Theory out of their schools. Courageous parents have stepped up. Jeremy Palmer, a parent, was arrested for speaking out. He addressed a school board meeting with concerns, and as he began to make his case, the school committee abruptly shut him down and demanded he be removed for not wearing a mask even though the mask mandate has been lifted. Chariho is one of the more progressive school districts, going so far as to demand white students apologize for being oppressors. Students complained to parents of being taught about white privilege, and young students were told their parents are racist. One five-year-old boy went home crying after he was told that when he got older, he might decide to become a girl.
In summary, some Rhode Island school districts have declared war against parents who challenge them on CRT, and they have key allies in the media who join in the attack on parents. The unions and union-controlled school committees have decided to make examples of any parent or legislator who questions CRT. Rep. Patricia Morgan has been viciously attacked and slandered for bringing attention to the indoctrinating material and the pornography in our school curricula.
