Bill Keller May Sue Southern Poverty Law Center

by Bethany Monk

The Rev. Bill Keller may be filing a $100 million lawsuit against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) if the organization doesn’t remove his ministry from its “Hate Map” by Wednesday.

The SPLC labeled Keller and his ministry —, a website that employs people to pray for emailed requests 24 hours a day — as a “hate group” on its online “Hate Map” about three years ago because they hold biblical views on homosexuality and abortion.

“In 2012, if you take a Biblical stand, the media and groups like the SPLC identify you has a ‘hate group,’ ” Keller said.

Keller told CitizenLink he was prompted to action this week by the shooting at a the Washington, D.C., headquarters of the Family Research Council, which the SPLC also has designated as a “hate group.”

Keller will send a letter Monday requesting the removal, and said he’s unafraid to pursue legal action against SPLC, located in Montgomery, Ala.

“We’re definitely not going to be intimidated or silenced,” he said.

Keller writes a daily devotional for, which currently has 2.4 million subscribers. He started the ministry in 1999.
