A New York-based pro-abortion group posted a suggestive video Tuesday “celebrating” the anniversary of the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that made abortion legal for any reason at any time during a woman’s pregnancy up to nine months.
The Center for Reproductive Rights video “Happy 40th Anniversary, Baby” features an actor sitting in a dimly lit room. A fire crackles in the fireplace behind him. Candles are lit in the corner. Dressed in a suit and tie, he sits in a chair while sipping a drink.
“Oh, hey baby, Did you think I forgot?” he says, holding a long-stemmed red rose. In the background, slow R&B music plays. “I didn’t forget. How could I ever forget our anniversary?”
The actor is Mehcad Brooks of “True Blood” and “Necessary Roughness.” Throughout the video, he addresses the Roe v. Wade decision as if it were his lover. He uses the word “baby” repeatedly and often winks at the camera.
“All these years, so many people said we’d never make it,” he says. “They’ve been trying to tear us apart. Take you away. Put limits on you — on me. On us. But every time, we’ve proven ourselves stronger. An anniversary like this is not something that you forget. No, no, no, baby — it is something you fight for.”
Ryan Bomberger, co-founder of The Radiance Foundation, an urban outreach ministry headquartered in Atlanta, found the video sickening.
“But I’m not surprised,” he told CitizenLink. “This is how pro-abortion groups operate. Once again the pro-abortion side shows it lack of respect of human dignity.”
Pro-life issues are close to Bomberger’s heart: His mother was a rape victim who chose life for him. He is biracial and was raised in a diverse adoptive family.
“Pro-abortion groups constantly target the black community,” he explained.
African-American abortion rates in New York City are six times higher than in any other community, he said. “And we have a fatherlessness rate of 73 percent. Here’s the irony: you have a black man (in the video) promoting abortion.”
CitizenLink Bioethics Analyst Dawn McBane said it’s sad that the abortion lobby is pushing such a creepy video.
“An anniversary like Roe v. Wade shouldn’t be fought for — it should be fought against,” she said. “The women and children who have been victimized by abortion know this all too well.”
Please ask your U.S. senators and representative to include pro-life provisions — specifically the defunding of Planned Parenthood — in any 2013 spending bill.
