Parental Rights
Strengthening families is a core component of Focus on the Family’s mission—and one key way to strengthen the family unit is to empower mothers and fathers to protect their children and direct their education.
Sadly, though, parental rights have come under heavy attack in recent years. Antagonistic court rulings have done much to erode them—as well as state and federal legislation that undermines parents’ authority to determine what their children are exposed to once they enter the schoolhouse door. Thus, we see more controversies erupting in schools over issues such as sexually graphic book assignments or controversial curriculum mandated against parents’ will, or without their knowledge. In this section, read more about Focus on the Family’s stance regarding the rights parents should have in schools, efforts to restore and protect those rights—and the latest news stories concerning this trend.
