COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Focus on the Family Action Judicial Issues Analyst Bruce Hausknecht released the following statement today in response to the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court:
“Judge Sotomayor’s statements during her confirmation hearings showed a marked departure from the writings, speeches and affiliations she had made over the last 30 years. At the hearings, Judge Sotomayor portrayed herself as a strict constructionist who would look to the original understanding of a constitutional provision rather than read new meanings into it, and as a supporter of Justice Scalia’s criticism of the use of foreign law to interpret our own law. She also rejected the ‘empathy’ standard by which she was supposedly selected. (more…)

“The Iowa Supreme Court opened the door to all kinds of marriage by using logic so broad and defective that the decision could well include polygamy. This ruling tramples on the will of Iowa citizens who enacted a law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman in 1998 to help ensure every Iowan child had a chance to be raised in a household by a married mom and a dad. Former White House Aide Joins Focus Action
Tim Goeglein assumes role as vice president of external relations.
Colorado Springs, Colo. – Tim Goeglein, former deputy director of the White House Office of Public Liaison under President George W. Bush, has joined Focus on the Family Action in the newly created role of vice president of external relations.
Goeglein brings nearly 20 years of public-service experience to his new position. His hiring, Focus on the Family Action President and CEO Jim Daly said, signals how serious the nonprofit organization is about defending families through public policy. (more…)
